Happy Birthday Dr Seuss: Clothes, Shoes and Toys For Babies and Toddlers

Happy Birthday Dr Seuss- or should I say, Theodor Seuss Geisel. A man of many mysteries, he had no children, created sexy propaganda for the army, coined the term 'nerd' and was in fact no more a Doctor than Dr Dre! Despite all the incongruous aspects of his personal and public life, Dr Seuss remains an institution in early childhood reading. Sure, his books are far more interesting than any old Dick And Jane reader, but perhaps what makes his books as memorable as they are is that they have real heart. Some of his stories are allegorical, others have valuable morals and some are just downright hilarious.

I was trying to think of amazing things to write about Dr Seuss and his influence on my life, but upon reading an article in the BBC News about his life I found this comment, and to be frank, if something has already been said perfectly, why re-invent the wheel:

I am a mommy. I speak for my two. We love Dr Seuss and his books, yes we do.
To think that one person could have such effect On helping kids read, why you'd never expect.
I read the books too when I was a kid. I loved them and laughed quite a lot, yes I did.
Now my boy and my girl, well they like them too.
The Cat in the Hat, Fox in Socks are just two.

I hope Dr Seuss can hear all the noise We're making to celebrate all of the joys He's brought to so many kids, both young and old.
We hope that his books will always be sold, And shared, and given, and loaned out and read. That's all now that I want to say, and it's said.

Despite my ranting that my son will not have a childhood in which he is a walking billboard for corporate America, he has been known to rock out in a Dr Seuss romper... If you also feel that somehow Dr Seuss and his delightful characters are above the cynical manipulation of lesser characters, check out this lot of awesome swag:
