Parenting Books Written By Punks, Rockers and Freaks.

Curling up with a good book is just about the best thing to do with your free time- you get to meet new people and go on weird and interesting adventures without having to leave the comfort of your own home.

Parenting is kind of like a good book in that you get to meet someone entirely new (!) and every day is a wonderful adventure. Books about the adventure of parenting by weird and interesting people has got to be just about the best of both worlds- so here are five good ones:

Punk Rock Dad: No Rules, Just Real Life By Jim Lindberg. Jim is a Punk Rock Dad- he is also the lead singer of Pennywise.

My Mother Wears Combat Boots: A Parenting Guide for the Rest of Us By Jessica Mills. Jessica is a rock'n'roll mum who also plays Tenor Sax in Citizen Fish.

Alternadad: The True Story of One Family's Struggle to Raise a Cool Kid in America by Neal Pollack. Neal is a satirist and author. Check out this great interview with him over at Identity Theory

The Hip Mama Survival Guide: Advice From the Trenches by Ariel Gore. Ariel is “The Indiana Jones of literature,” says ChuckPalahniuk.net.

Ariel also worked with Bee Lavender to write Breeder: Real-Life Stories from the New Generation of Mothers

Know of any other books by weird and interesting people about parenting? I'd love to hear your suggestions!

Readin' and rock'n,
Sandi D
